The cold quality (śita guṇa) makes it so that all the heat of your body is concentrated in your digestive center (the āmāśaya) because the job of the cold quality is to constrict! This is why you may find yourself hungrier in the winter. Good news for those of us who are living in the Northern Hemisphere right now when eating more dense meals are prevalent!
